About me
My name is Dom Rayner and Im a professional Bridge coach.
I learnt to play bridge in quite an unusual way. When I was about 8 years old, my Mum and Dad decided to have private lessons on a recommendation of a friend of theirs. As a youngster fascinated by cards I used to come home from school and watch them play bridge for hours at a time, but I never actually played.
Then fast forward 11 years to when I was 19 and one day my Mum randomly asked if I would like to go to the bridge club with her to play. I gave it some thought as I had heard the stigma about the game, but decided I had nothing to lose so I gave it a go.
When I began to play it was as if someone had taught me in my sleep! Within a few weeks I had progressed beyond the lesson structure at my local club (Sheffield) and I was ready to play in club duplicate sessions.
A few months later and I was noticed by someone at Sheffield who recommended me to the England u20s squad. When I received the invite to attend the training weekends with the England squad of course I accepted immediately! Given my age I moved up to the u25s squad within a year, and I still go down to training weekends in London now. These sessions training with internationals is what has really brought my bridge on leaps and bounds.
How can I help?
I feel like I could talk for hours and hours about bridge, the passion I have for this game is like none I’ve found before, so if you are as passionate as I am, and you want to improve your game or learn for the first time, give me a try!
